GREENVILLE - William E. "Bill" Wolford, 78, of Greenville, passed away early morning Feb. 23, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 1, 1934, in Greenville, son of the late Lemuel and Gladys (Raman) Wolford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leona (Rich) Wolford, on June 10, 2008.
Bill was retired as a lieutenant for the Greenville Police Department having served the community for 31 years. He had also driven the delivery truck for Loudy's Office Machines in Greenville for 22 years. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Greenville.
He is survived by his sons, Roger (Trish) Wolford of Greenville and Greg (Debbie) Wolford of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Jordy Wolford, John, Michelle, David, and Philip Wolford; a great-grandson, Jordy Wolford, Jr.; stepgrandson, Michael (Beth) DeLong; stepgreat-grandchildren, Dejah, Emma, and Brianne DeLong; sisters, Phyllis Williamson of Greenville, and Carol Flory of Arcanum; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service with police honors will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bible Baptist Church, 510 Front St., Greenville, with Pastor Ron Isom officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church Sunday from 1 till 2 p.m. The ask that family and friends please write down a story or memory of Bill and bring to the church with you. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Greenville City Parks. Arrangements have been entrusted with the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.
