George Edward Altenberger, age 58, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 2:15 p.m. on Sept. 10, 2012 at Troy Care and Rehabilitation Center in Troy.
George was born May 30, 1954 in Elizabeth City, N.C. to Eileen R. (Jones) Altenberger of Greenville and the late George E. Altenberger Sr.
In addition to his father, George is also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Victor A. Sharp.
George graduated from Tucumcari High School in Tucumcari, N.M. George served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. George worked for 34 years at ITW Hobart Brothers in Troy. George was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Greenville. George loved the outdoors, whether it was riding his bicycle, fishing, mowing, washing his cars or just sitting on the porch swing.
In addition to his mother, George is also survived by his wife, Jerri Lee (Sharp) Altenberger; son, Jared Altenberger of Greenville; daughter, Erin Altenberger and Corey Roessner of Dayton; brother and sister-in-law, Dana and Judy Altenberger of Virginia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sherry and Michael Gallagher of Bradford and Anita and Tommy Welch of Oklahoma; mother-in-law, Dorothy Sharp of Greenville; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Carrie Sharp of Greenville and Doug Sharp of Tipp City; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lisa and Jeff Byram of Bradford; his two beloved pets, Chloe and Sadie; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. John Lutheran Church, 7418 St. Rt. 121 North, Greenville with the Rev. Alan Knoke officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville and Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. A veteran's graveside service will be conducted by the Greenville Veteran's Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Darke County Cancer Association or to St. John Lutheran Church.
