POWELL, Ohio - Richard D. McClellan, age 76, of Powell, Ohio, passed away at 10:55 p.m. on July 3, 2014, at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Richard was born on Aug. 24, 1937, to the late Harold and Annabelle (Herrmann) McClellan.
Richard is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joann (Berning) McClellan, whom he married on May 30, 1964 in McCartyville, Ohio; son and daughter-in-law Richard "Rick" and Lisa McClellan of Powell; son and daughter-in-law Michael "Mike" and Gina McClellan of Humble, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Rick Piatak of Powell; grandchildren Mitchell McClellan, Jonathan McClellan, Brandon Piatak, Connor McClellan, Tyler McClellan, Evan Piatak, and Spencer McClellan.
In addition to his parents, Richard was also preceded in death by his sisters NormaLou (Ed) Zircher of Tucson, Ariz., and Patricia (Donald) Bernard of Greenville, Ohio.
Richard was a graduate of Versailles High School, Class of 1955. He served in the US Army from 1958-59. He received his certificate of accounting from Edison State Community College in 1977 and received an associate's degree in materials management from Sinclair Community College in 1990. He earned his certification degree in purchasing from National Purchasing and Materials Management in 1985 as a certified purchasing manager. He was elected to the National Association of Purchasing Management, Columbus Chapter in 1988 and served as president from 1993-1994.
He received the highest award "The Hank Slauter Award" in 1998. He worked for Shrader's Inc., Greenville, Ohio, for 28 years in various roles including operations and purchasing management. Richard was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville, Ohio, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He joined Bank One in Columbus, Ohio, in 1987 as a purchasing manager and retired in 2000. Upon retirement, he spent several years working for J. E. Wiggins & Co. preparing annual tax returns.
He was an active parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 10700 Liberty Road, Powell, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, with The Rev.James Black, Celebrant. A luncheon will follow the Mass. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, McCartyville, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Rutherford Funeral HOme at Powell, 450 W. Olentangy St., (Powell Road/State Route 750 ¼ mile east of Sawmill Pkwy.) and again on Tuesday morning at the church before the Mass from 9 to 10.
