CINCINNATI - Selga Anna Jekabsons, 65, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died peacefully at Glencare Center on Nov. 9, 2012, under the care of hospice.
She was born March 4, 1947, in Bad Rehburg, Germany, while her family lived in DP camps, escaping from communism in Latvia.
The daughter of Karlis and Anna (Porietis) Jekabsons, her family settled in Greenville, Ohio, with the help of Ray Petersime and the Church World Service.
Selga graduated from Greenville Senior High School in 1965. She attended Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing and became a registered nurse in 1968. She worked at Miami Valley and Good Samaritan hospitals in Dayton, Ohio, as well as The Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati.
Selga is survived by her sisters and their families, Maija (Tom) Carey of Dunwoody, Ga., Ilze (Jan) Koch of Portland, Ind., Mara (David) Cox of Greenville, Ohio, and Ilona (David) Reif of Laramie, Wyo.
She was a favorite aunt of her nieces and was described as their "cool aunt" single, beautiful, independent, fiercely intelligent and curious with an apartment full of beautiful clothes and precious jewelry hunted down at thrift and discount stores, interesting books and magazines, and teas and jams and other things that brought her joy.
