REEDSBURG, Wis. - Walter William Fritz, age 90, of Reedsburg, Wis., formerly of Versailles, Ohio, died on Jan. 19, 2013, at the Golden Living Centers in the Wisconsin Dells.

Walter was born on Aug. 31, 1922, in Darke County, Ohio, to the late David and Clara Fritz. Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Norma Jean Fritz, brothers and sisters Loretta (Alton) Millet, Edwin (Fay) Fritz, John (Wilma) Fritz, Annabelle (Gene) Brewer, Robert (survived by Judy) Fritz.

Surviving brothers and sisters are Lloyd (Avesta) Fritz, Donald (Donna) Fritz, Clifford (Frances) Fritz, Carol Fritz, Rita Fritz, and David Clarence (Barbara) Fritz. Walter's children from a previous marriage to Phyllis Weikert Koetter are Mike (Debbie) Fritz, Ron (Lynda) Fritz, Jim (Peggy) Fritz, and Debbie (Ken) Beier. Grandchildren are Nikki (Eric) Rustad, Paul (Shelia) Fritz, and Jessica (Jeremy) Pifer, Tyler (Teresa) Fritz, Chad (Christy) Fritz, Mandy (Allen) Byrd, Mathoya Sowry (Steve Mills), Colleen Beier (Shane Huebel), Sara (Brent) Wiebke, and Jim (Kelly) Beier. Also, Walter had numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Walter served in the US Army during World War II and was an avid dairy farmer for most of his life. He was a salesman for Badger Sales in Ironton, Wisc., A.O. Smith Harvestore in Dodgeville, Wis., and for Morton Builders in Wisconsin. Walter owned Fritz's Quality Meats and the Versailles Locker Plant in Versailles, Ohio. Walter had a great love of dogs. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0172 in North Freedom, Wis.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home in Wonewoc, Wis.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 402 Center St., Wonewoc, Wis.; burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom, Wis. Pastor Mike Biesek will be officiating the service and it will be held with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 0172 Veterans' Honor Guard of North Freedom. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to Alzheimer Foundation of America (1-866-232-8484 or or to the American Legion Post 0172 of North Freedom. Thompson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
