NEW WESTON - John S. Brown, 87, of New Weston, Ohio, passed away on March 1, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Brown was born in New Weston on Oct. 19, 1925, and is the son of Lincoln and Lucy Sargent Brown.

Brown was a retired electrical engineer from Fram Corporation, Greenville, Ohio. He was a 1943 graduate of the former Jackson High School, Union City, Ohio, and attended Ohio State University.

Brown served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Franklin CV-13, which was the most decorated ship of World War II. He belonged to the American Legion Post 345, Fort Recovery, OH, Fram Retirees, Greenville, Ohio, and The Holy Name Society of the church. He was also a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Sharpsburg, Ohio. In his spare time, Brown attended yearly reunions of the USS Franklin CV-13 and was an avid fisherman.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Florence (Malin) Brown, whom he married Feb. 7, 1948, in Maspath, N.Y.; his son, Ralph (Terrie) Brown of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter Melissa Yates of Indianapolis, Ind.; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Ary, and son-in-law Bill Wenz.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Sharpsburg, Ohio, with Fr. Thomas Dorn officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens, Greenville, Ohio. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Fort Recovery American Legion.

Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. and 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, Ohio. The family suggests contributions can be made to the State of the Heart Hospice. Online condolences may be directed to
