NORTH STAR - Mary Jean Wehrkamp, age 90, of North Star, passed away on July 20, 2013 at her home.
She was born March 26, 1923, in North Star, to the late Leo and Zita (Grilliot) Stammen. On Sept. 5, 1942 she married Ernest J. "Slim" Wehrkamp and he died Oct. 18, 2002.
She is also survived by six children, Michael and Dixie Wehrkamp of Versailles, Edward and Marlene Wehrkamp of Ft. Recovery, Joyce and Ron Hiestand of North Star, Mark and Diane Wehrkamp of Versailles, Leo and Linda Wehrkamp of North Star and Melanie Parin of North Star; a son-in-law Richard and Carol Francis of Versailles; 27 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 64 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a sister-in-law Wilma Stammen of North Star.
Mrs. Wehrkamp was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Francis, two grandchildren, a great-grandchild, siblings, Bob and Loretta Stammen, Joan and Val Groff, Tom Stammen, Carol and Ben Selhorst, Ruta and Albert Hemmelgarn and Luke Stammen.
She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and the St. Anne's ladies sodality of the church and the Darke County Right to Life. Mary Jean was a CCD teacher for many years, graduated from St. Henry High School and lived in North Star her entire life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Louis Church, North Star, with Fr. David Zink, officiating. Burial with will follow in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home-Coldwater on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m., and at St. Louis Church on Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Darke County Right to Life or St. Vincent DePaul.
