Donna Hartley

Donna Verneal Hartley, 78, of Herrin, Illinois went to Heaven in the comforts of her home on Tuesday morning, November 5th, 2013.

Donna was born on July 29th, 1935, in West Frankfort, Illinois to Ruby and Ernest Allen. She graduated from West Frankfort Community High School in May 1954.

Donna married Curtis Ray Hartley on August 26, 1955, in Corinth, Mississippi. They had two children, Michael Curtis Hartley and Victoria Lynn Hartley.

Donna was a very devoted Christian and was a member of the Marion Church of God. She began each day with her dedication to reading her Bible and lived her life according to the principles of God's love and law. Donna enjoyed many hobbies in addition to being a homemaker. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed cultivating flowers and cactus from seed. Donna was also an expert seamstress. She was a member of the Southern Illinois Arts and Crafts Guild for several years. Donna and daughter Victoria enjoyed creating and designing primitive quilt art and had many art shows. Donna's favorite hobby was being an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. She spent many hours enjoying watching Cardinal games with her son Michael. In addition Donna enjoyed planning outside activities such as picnics and boating for family fun at the Gateway Marina that they owned for many years. Donna enjoyed listening to gospel music with her husband. Donna also was a very devoted wife that committed years of support and love to her husband and his career as a Maytag engineer. Donna also enjoyed her beloved pets which include Dusty, Taffy, Lucy, Zac, Chequers and currently Drake. Donna's main love and dedication was to her family and was a beautiful outstanding Christian mother that will forever remain in the hearts of many.

Donna is survived by her husband Curtis Hartley of Herrin; son Mike Hartley of Herrin; daughter Victoria Hartley of Herrin; sister Nadine Bozic of West Frankfort, sister Margaret Lindgren of Sandwich, IL, Edith Ann (Larry) Benson of NY and brother Kenneth Allen of FL.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Ruby Allen, brother Jerry Allen, Sister Kay Barnett, brother-in-law Don Barnett and sister Joyce Mae.Visitation will be from 4pm to 7 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2013 at Crain Funeral Home Egyptian Chapel in Energy, Illinois. Funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the First Church of God 1409 Broeking Road Marion, Illinois. Entombment will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Crain Funeral Home Egyptian Chapel in Energy, Illinois.
