Carl D. Ezell, 88, of Sparta formerly of West Frankfort, died at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013 in Sparta Community Hospital. He was born November 18, 1924 in Benton; the son of the late Clyde and Euna (Malone) Ezell. He married Bonnie Lou Bishop on December 18, 1948 at First Methodist Church in Paducah, Kentucky.

Carl was a U.S. Army World War II veteran who served in the China-Burma-India Theater. He was the owner and operator of Ezell Auto Body in Christopher, Illinois and a member of First United Methodist Church of Sparta, IL. He loved God, family, and his country.
Surviving family members include his wife: Bonnie Ezell of Sparta; daughters Lynn (Bill) Bennett of Sparta, Illinois; Carla Ezell of Stratham, New Hampshire; Pam (Michael) Kolodziej of Austin, Texas; and Tammy Grimm of West Frankfort, Ill.; 5 Grandchildren: Jason Bennett, Nicholas Kolodziej, Brittany Kolodziej, Chelsea Broy, and Jonathon (Annie) Broy and Great-granddaughter Ava.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Glen (Pearl) Ezell, Estel Clyde Ezell, sister Evelyn (Everett) LeMay and son-in-law Michael Grimm.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2013 in Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City, Ill. with Reverend Gary Feldman officiating. Friends are asked to meet directly at the cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legions of Orient and Zeigler the VFW of West Frankfort and by the Funeral Honors Team in Marion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Sparta or Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc.. Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort is in charge of arrangements.
