David Lee Griffin, 64, of Thompsonville passed away at 10:44 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born January 2, 1949 in Taylorville, Il. to Ralph and Ruth (Jenkins) Griffin. He married Miriam (Brannan) Griffin on July 3, 1971 in Tower Rock, Il.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Miriam (Brannan) Griffin of Thompsonville; his children, Melodie (Carlos) Rife of pounding Mill, Virginia, Sharron (Jeff) Evans of Thompsonville and Nancy (Robert) Bradley of Buckner; grandchildren, Veronica and Cheryl Johnson, Alecia, Michael and Huner McDonough and Andrew Bradley; one very special great grandchild, Deseray Lynn Pulley; brother, Dan (Lori) Griffin of Nashville, Tn.; brothers-in-law, Wayne (Rose) Brannan of West Frankfort, Leon (Libby) Brannan of Royal Palm Beach, Florida and Ralph (Betty) Brannan of West Frankfort and many nieces and nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and Jerry Griffin his in-laws, Vernon and Nellie Brannan, his son, Thomas McDonough in 2007.
David was a very talented man held many jobs, and was very knowledgeable in all that he did. He loved to fish, hunt, gardening and growing flowers, this he loved most to work with. He served his country proudly with the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. He was employed by Norge Fedders, then became a coal miner in 1972, first as a union worker, working at Old Ben #21 for seven years, then he became a boss in 1979 for them. He worked at Old Ben # 21, 24, 25, 26 and 27. He retired in 1990. In 1992 he went to work for American Longwall as a sales/service engineer working in various mines and traveling to many states and to England. He then worked for Joy Mining Machinery until 2004, when he retired again. In 1985, he and Miriam were the owners of S.I. Video and ran it until 1992. David was the most loving husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa ever. He will live forever in our hearts.
Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013 at the Parker - Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort with Dr. J. Alan Nolen officiating.
