Shirley (Whitehead) Serles Trusty, 71, of Zeigler, died at 3:56 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Westside Care Center in West Frankfort.
Mrs. Trusty was born on September 4, 1941 in West Frankfort, IL the daughter of James Whitehead and Flossie (Ramsey) Whitehead. She married James C. Serles, her high school sweetheart, and he preceded her in death on February 8, 2002. She later married Carl R. Trusty and he survives and resides in Zeigler.
Shirley worked at several places over the years including Grandpa Johns, K-Mart, and First Bank in West Frankfort. She also worked as a volunteer at the V.A. Medical Center in Marion. She was a member of the First Church of God in West Frankfort.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Deborah (Don) Russell, Sullivan, IL, a son, Timothy J. (Cindy) Serles, Johnston City, IL, four grandchildren, Amanda Weaver and Mindy (Johnathan) Yoder, all of Sullivan, IL, Timothy A. Serles, Marion, IL, Tyson C. Serles, West Frankfort, IL, three great-grandchildren, Kobi, Darius, and River, a step-daughter, Sherry Trusty, West Frankfort, IL, a step-son, Terry (Tammy) Trusty, Zeigler, IL, seven step-grandchildren, Terah (Jason) Keim, Carterville, IL, Heather Trusty, Beth Trusty, Brandi Simpkins, all of West Frankfort, IL, Billee and friend Robert, Harrisburg, IL, Tiffanie and Erin Rogers, Johnston City, IL, Cindy's mother, Sandra Tippy, Johnston City, IL, five step-great-grandchildren, Caylah, Macey, Eli, Lucy, and Gavin. She was also survived by two very special cousins who were like sisters, Sharon Raymond and Georgia Colp.
Mrs. Trusty was preceded in death by her parents and husband, James C. Serles.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort with Pastor Matt Frizzell officiating. Shirley's body will be cremated, per her request, and her cremated remains buried at the Denning Cemetery in West Frankfort.
