Hill, Leonard  
Leonard (Len) Hill Leonard (Len) Hill passed away on February 4, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Len was born January 4, 1936 in Red Lake Falls, MN to Urho and Marion Hill. He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon his return he met and married the love of his life, Merna (Stallmo). They moved to California (South Bay) where he worked in construction for over 30 years before retiring to Sun City. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, Angel baseball and coaching his sons youth baseball teams. He and Merna enjoyed traveling with frients to Hawail, Puerto Vallarta and Palm Springs. As a grandparent, he made sure to attend his granddaughters award ceremonies and softball games as well as traveling to Illinois to watch his grandson play sports. Len was active in senior activities such as golf and chair volleyball. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Joyce, Yvonne and Jeannie. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Merna, sons, Steve, Mark (Joy) and Don, grandchildren Courtney and Jake, brother, Arnold (Irene) and many family and friends. A celebration of Len's life will take place on March 8, 1p.m. at The Plaza at Cabrillo Marina, Berth 28, San Pedro, CA. Please sign the guest book at .

Hughes, Alvin  
Alvin M. Hughes 1926 - 2015 Alvin M. Hughes Jr., a long-time Hawthorne School District administrator and 54 year resident of Palos Verdes, had a beautiful and active life end on February 25, 2015 with family at his side. Born in 1926 in Amery, Wisconsin to Alvin and Carrie Hughes, Alvin Jr. moved to California when his father went to work in the Wilmington shipyards during World War II. During the war he served in the Philippines with the U.S. Army. After the war, marriage, and an eventful, middle of winter motorcycle ride from Wisconsin to California, Alvin graduated from USC and began a 50 year career in education. He taught at Hawthorne Intermediate for several years before serving as Assistant Superintendent of Business. After "retiring," he served as interim Assistant Superintendent with the Wiseburn, Lawndale, Culver City, and Palos Verdes school districts. He also served for many years on PVUSD's committee to oversee $85 million in school improvements. Alvin was also involved in many community groups, as a member of Neighborhood Church and the PV Breakfast Club and a past president of both the Hawthorne Rotary Club and Hawthorne YMCA. He is survived by his wife Jean, daughter Yvonne, son and daughter-in-law Steve and Sue, son Tom, sister Orpha Gorman, grandchildren Laura, Aaron and Jenny, and great grandson Evan. A memorial service will be held at Neighborhood Church in Palos Verdes on March 7 at noon, with a graveside service at Green Hills Memorial Park on Friday March 6 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Pulmonary Education Research Foundation or the Rotary Foundation. Herold, Herbert  
Herbert M. Herold 1930 - 2015 Herbert M. Herold, 84, longtime resident of Torrance, CA, passed away on February 24, 2015 at Long Beach Memorial with family members at his bedside after suffering an unexpected stroke. Herbert was born in Beverly Hills, CA, on September 17, 1930, of Albert Herold and Hedwig (Stinner). Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Rosalpina Herold (Altamirano), his four children Lino (Lisa), Eric (Gabriele), Bryan (Andrea), and Rozenia Herold; brother Roland Herold. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Andrew, Chris, Stephanie, Daniel, Matthew, Isaiah, Brandon, Jessica, Emma, and Ethan; and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 17 years, Josie Herold (Elizarra). Born into a family of German immigrants, Herbert's mother passed away when he was just a toddler. Herbert, along with his younger brother, spent his kindergarten years in Germany with his aunt. He eventually moved back to live in Los Angeles with his father and stepmother Ann Marie. Herbert graduated from Washington High School in 1949 and attended El Camino College. He worked as a roofer, aviation fabricator, and realtor. He also had a brief stint in the US Navy. Herbert became a savvy real estate investor and landlord, with rental properties throughout Southern California. Herbert was a dedicated family man and supportive friend. He was full of energy and widely known as a conversation starter. He was an active 84 year old and always on the go. He enjoyed working on his properties, healthy living, dancing to his own beat, and fixing anything in need of repair. His other hobbies included waterskiing, gymnastics, water aerobics, and matchmaking. He loved to talk about all things especially about family, history, politics, psychology, and business. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be held March 4th at Green Hills Mortuary 3pm - 8pm with Rosary service at 6pm. Funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday March 5th at Green Hills Memorial Chapel & Park, 27501 S. Western Ave, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. All friends are welcomed.
