Hansford, Anne (Featured)
Anne Hansford died on Sunday, leaving behind San?Pedro's meticulously organized archives over which she presided for two decades. Whether you were looking for an obscure photo of Sixth Street from the early 1900s or the history of the California bungalow you just bought, Hansford had it all at her fingertips somewhere in Room?505 in San?Pedro's City Hall. She was 83 and died at home following a brief illness.

Lucido, Joan
Joan Lucido Whenever Joan Lucido's family gathered for a wedding, a weekend in Vegas or a festive occasion, they danced to their theme song, "We Are Family." As Joan lay in hospice over the weekend, the Lucido children, grandchildren and relatives took round-the-clock care of their ailing matriarch. She died Monday surrounded by her loving family and friends who managed a few laughs among the swelling tears as they bid farewell to the mother who raised and watched over them. To those who knew Joan well she was known as Ga, a nickname coined by her grandchildren. Joan, 83, the eldest daughter of Sam and Josephine Braco, was raised in San Pedro and lived in San Pedro, North Hollywood, Chicago, Boston, Houston and Detroit while married to George Lucido whom she met while in elementary school. She settled with her children in Orange County in 1976. Always feisty and rebellious, Joan loved playing the slots, reading a good biography, watching General Hospital and the pro tennis circuit, and enjoying a smoke. A career in nursing was cut short after she was injured in an accident in 1983. After that, Joan lived even more her for family, watching over her six children: Diana, Marcee, Joe, Julie, Roxanne and Paul, plus Mikey Nardozza, known as the seventh Lucido child. They and a sister, Janet Stevens, as well as eleven grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews survive her. Joan stayed close to the grandchildren, babysitting and nurturing them. To Joan, family always came first. She loved sewing homemade costumes at Halloween, creating intricate party favors and cooking her famous sauerkraut, macaroni and cheese, and potato salad. Joan remained proud of her Slavic heritage and her San Pedro upbringing. Her father, captain of the purse seiner Spartan, and her mother, a Home Economics teacher, have roots in the Dalmatian Islands. She is survived by her children and their families: Diana and Jeffrey Brody of San Clemente; Marcee Tribbey of Irvine; Joe and Sara Lucido of Dallas; Julie and Craig Pursley of Bath, New Hampshire; Roxanne Lucido and Rick Cadarette of San Clemente, and Paul Lucido of Las Vegas, her sister Janet Stevens of Irvine and aunt Anne Gusha of San Pedro. A sister, Dorothy Braco, predeceased her. If Joan, who cared for others more than herself, has left one legacy, it is "WE ARE FAMILY." Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits .
