Miller, Richard  
Richard Alan "Dick" Miller Richard Alan "Dick" Miller, a 43 year resident of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, passed away on Wednesday December 10, 2014 in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dick was 72 when he died. He grew up in San Marino and was a member of the first graduating class of La Salle High School in Pasadena. He graduated from Loyola University with a degree in accounting and then Loyola Law School. Dick was a partner at KPMG before opening his own law office where he worked for 30 years. He was a supporter and avid fan of all USC sports and for many years he and Rosemary attended all Trojan football games at home and away. He especially loved spending time with all his grandchildren. Dick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rosemary Miller; four children: Cynthia Miller (Randy Witmyer), Michelle Miller Hogan, Mark (Katherine) Miller, and Greg (Diane) Miller; and eight grandchildren: John Miller, Sean Hogan, Ryan Hogan, Andrew Miller, Danny Miller, Katie Hogan, Peter Miller, and Matthew Miller. He is also survived by his siblings; Carolyn Miller, Philomene Miller, Frank (Gretchen) Miller, Mary Jo (Rocky) Gunderson. He was preceded in death by parents John and Clara (Farrell) Miller. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, December 20, at St. John Fisher Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park. Mish, James  
James Mish James Mish, an 85 year resident of Hermosa and Manhattan Beach, passed away on December 17, 2014. He was born June 9, 1929 in Hermosa Beach, CA to Italian parents John and Mary Mish. He attended Redondo Union HS and was a veteran of the Korean War. Jim was an active member of the Journey of Faith church. He was a loving husband, father, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed. He is now resting in the loving arms of his wife Theresa, his parents and five older siblings. He is survived by his son Randall Mish of New York. Jim worked for the Palos Verdes School District for over 30 years. He was an airplane and classic car enthusiast and was a member of numerous vintage plane and car museums. He loved traveling to air and car shows where he proudly shared his own Mustang cars. Ben C. Murdoch May 11, 1935 - December 21, 2014 Resided in Torrance, CA Ben was born on May 11, 1935, in Houston Pennsylvania to Bennie and Virginia Murdoch. He passed away on December 21, 2014. Ben is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sandra (Bebout), his daughter Susan (Don) Cheeks, along with 3 grandchildren Matthew and Jason (Samantha) Cheeks and Stella Madrid, daughter-in-law Cathy. He is preceded in death by his son, Chuck Murdoch. Ben also leaves a sister Violet (Jack) DeFelice. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Green Hills Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow in Green Hills Park. Peterson, Joan  
Joan Peterson March 23, 1929 - December 12, 2014 Joan Peterson, who lived in Torrance for over 55 years, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2014. Joan will be dearly missed and forever remembered for her kind and gentle spirit which made her loved by all who met her. Joan's generosity, grateful heart and ability to make everyone in her life feel special were only a few of her extraordinary qualities. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Brinton Peterson and her beloved son, Christopher Peterson. She is survived by her loving daughters, Ronna Uruburu (Steve), Joanie Hubenet (Paul), Judy Kline (Larry Hanson); daughter-in-law, Sue Peterson Thompson (Tom); her cherished eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and other dear relatives. Phineas, Samuel  
In Loving Memory Of Samuel J. Phineas On November 28th 2014, our beloved Sam passed away at his childhood home. He passed peacefully in his sleep after a long fought battle with diabetes. He was 45 years of age. A lifelong resident of Carson, Sam attended WJHS and Carson High. He joined the Navy and served on the USS Buffalo. He was also in advertising and a casual Longshoreman with the ILWU. Sam is survived by his loving parents Janet (Richard) Gonzalez and Sam (Evie d.) Phineas. Brothers Larry Phineas, Richard (Cynthia) Gonzalez Jr., and BJ Phineas. Sisters Gina (Julie) Phineas, Michaeline Gonzalez, Carrie (Hector) Rivera, and Yvonne Gonzalez. Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sam's nieces and nephews were the joy of his life and he would make them laugh and smile like no other. He was the king of the kids. He will always be loved and deeply missed. Visitation will be held Sunday Dec. 21, 2014 from 5-8pm. Powelson, Chester J.  
Chester J. Powelson Chester J. Powelson, a lifelong resident of the South Bay, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2014 at the age of 81 at his home. Chester is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Anna Powelson; his children, Lorenza Smith, Joseph, Louis, Rene'e, and Angela; his eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his daughter, Lillian; his brother, Jimmy Ryan; sisters, Lola Bernal and Helen Powelson; and mother, Marion Alvarez. Chester was born in San Pedro on November 14, 1933. He spent time as an enlisted Marine at Camp Pendleton. He was a retired Redondo Beach City employee of 35 years. Chester was involved in local politics in hopes of making his community a better place to live, work and play. He loved calling Redondo Beach his home. Chester found happiness in cooking for his friends and family; no one left his presence with an empty stomach. He loved to sing, tell stories and joke around with his grandkids; no phone call with his grandkids was complete without a song. He enjoyed research and was always working on a project. He had a love of horse racing and enjoyed spending time at the track. He was a spiritual man who spoke of the day he joined God, and how he would continue to watch over his loved ones. Raabe, Mary  
In Loving Memory Of Mary Raabe Mary Raabe of Hawthorne, California passed away December 15, 2014 at the age of 86. She was born October 28, 1928 in Denver, Colorado. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, and as survived by her sister Kathy Welsh, and son, John Raabe. She worked many years as a secretary and real estate broker. She enjoyed eating at restaurants and traveling. Rountree, Richard  
Richard C. Rountree Richard C. Rountree, 81, of Harbor City, CA passed away peacefully on December 7, 2014. He was married for 51 years to caring wife Carole. He is also survived by four children Deborah and husband Michael Stewart, Charles and wife Joyce, Kimberlee and husband John Gorman, Seth and seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Born in Lima, Ohio, he moved to Southern California as an infant, and Richard was raised in Long Beach. As a Wilson High School grad of 1950, he was on the CIF Championship Baseball team. Richard coached several local youth baseball teams in the 1970s. He continued to enjoy playing sports (having played semi-pro baseball for the Hollywood Stars in the 1950s and professional softball for the Long Beach Nitehawks in 1960s) until age 65 when he finally hung up his softball cleats, fulfilling a life time goal. He earned his Bachelors, Masters, Professional Engineering, and his Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering from the Viterbi School of Engineering at University of Southern California. His passions were spending time with family, sports (especially anything USC Trojans, Lakers and Dodgers) reading, and pets. Carole and Richard enjoyed several cruises, trips to Montana, and just spending time together. He enjoyed being a member of the Long Beach Century Club. He was an adjunct professor at CSULB and USC. He started his distinguished career as a Systems Engineer at Douglas Aircraft. Richard was promoted to the drafting department because they needed a guard on their basketball team. He later moved onto Northrop, TRW, Logicon, and retired from The Aerospace Corporation of El Segundo. He supported the guidance system on Apollo 11, worked on the Lunar Excursion Module, established the Strategic Petroleum Reserves, and supported/designed other US Defense Systems.
