Frederick James Maddalone, our loving, "Goomba", passed away December 28, 2012 after a battle with congestive heart failure. Mr. Maddalone was born in Chicago, IL, on July 25, 1922. He relocated his family to Redondo Beach in 1955 where he and his wife Betty opened Maddalone's Restaurant and Pizzeria. After 28 years of success as a restaurateur, he would change his career to that of a jeweler. He opened the South Bay Gold Co. in the Hollywood Riviera and ultimately relocated to Westminster as Frederick's Jewelers. Fred's, hard work, zany personality and dedication to his customer's made him a success in both of his professions throughout his life. He worked everyday up until about a month prior to his death. He was predeceased by his father, Gaetano Maddalone, mother, Caroline Pretzioso Maddalone, his wife, Betty Herres Maddalone, Brother George Maddalone, Roy Maddalone and Sister Marie Lentini. He is survived by his children, Jeff Maddalone, Carrie Maddalone Kuvakas and George Kuvakas, Dean Maddalone, Chris Maddalone, 6 grandchildren, Deana Janji and Mark Janji, Tony Occhipint and Chelsea Occhipinti, Dustin Maddalone, Angie Maddalone, Lacy Maddalone, Milana Maddalone, Nicholas Maddalone, and 2 great-grandchildren, Sophia Janji and Lola Janji, his sisters, Nancy Caliendo, Toni Precht, Joanne McMillan and many family members in Chicago.
