Jesse G. Saldivar

Jesse G. Saldivar was born in San Antonio, Texas on January 23, 1926 to Librado and Elodia Saldivar. He passed away peacefully the morning of February 11 at 5:35 am with his daughter, Carmen, and his brother, John Saldivar at his bedside. Jesse and his wife Henrietta lived in Gardena for over 50 years and were married for 60 years before her passing on July 7, 2008. Jesse also served his community as a block captain for the 186th Street Neighborhood Watch for over 10 years and was a WWII Army veteran serving in the South Pacific mainly in the Philippines and Panama. After retiring from Patent Scaffolding Company (38 years) he enjoyed gardening, making his famous chili salsas, nurturing his fish pond, playing cards with his family and loving every special moment of his children, grand children and great grand children. He is survived by his 6 children, Carmen Freeland, Jesse Jr. (daughter-in-law Liz), Maria Dolores Kiyabu (son-in-law Mark Kiyabu), Maria Scott, Robert (daughter-in-law Jade), Maria Josephina (Mary Jo) Rodriguez (son-in-law Manuel Rodriguez); 2 brothers, John Saldivar and Richard Saldivar (both of San Antonio), 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. A celebration Mass will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 1050 W. 163rd Street, Gardena, CA on Friday, February 15 at 12 noon, a reception will follow at the church hall. A rosary service will be held on Thursday, February 14 at 7:30pm at St. Anthony's.
