John Linden

John Phillip Linden passed away quietly at home on May 3. He was born in Los Angeles, California, on May 23, 1924. He grew up in Brentwood, graduated from University High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy following Pearl Harbor. He spent his military service as a radioman in the Pacific arena. Following the war, John studied engineering at UCLA and USC. He began a long career at Hughes Aircraft Company as an electrical engineer and later moved into marketing and management positions, retiring in 1981. John married Helyn Carpenter in 1947. They lived in Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach, moving to the Palos Verdes Peninsula in 1958, where they raised four daughters. John was an avid fisherman and amateur ham radio operator. He enjoyed traveling to Guyamas, Mexico where he had many friends. John was an animal lover, caring for many pets and feral animals over the years. He also loved listening to music, reading and having lively discussions right up until the end of his life. John was preceded in death by his wife, Helyn. He is survived by daughters Kathleen Spearman, Kristen (Tony) Moreno, Teresa (Mario) Barron, and Debi (Gary) Casement; grandchildren Isabelle Moreno, Mark (Debbie) Barron, Marlo (Steve) Aichele, Evan (Shelley) Howell, Eva and Joseph Barron, Erik (Jillann) Casamento, Garyn (Tim) Pearson, Yulia and Artyom Spearman. John also leaves behind thirteen great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration will be held for him at our family home on Tuesday, May 21, from 2-4 pm.
