Mary Katherine (Vink) Carevich
Mary passed away peacefully on January 31, 2014 at the age of 87. She was born January 18, 1927 to Jacob and Agnes Vink (deceased) in Long Beach, California, and had one brother Arnold (deceased). Her father was a successful dairyman throughout California. Mary attended elementary school in Downey and high school in Turlock, living the rural "dairy life." She cherished her Dutch heritage and remained close to her many Dutch relatives over the years. She met her future husband Chuck at a singles Catholic club, where he serenaded her with his favorite songs. She married her "#1 Dear Doll", Charles Anthony Carevich, on May 11, 1957. They raised four kids in San Pedro. Mary had a work ethic like no other. Before marriage, she worked for General Motors
as a secretary. Later in life, she worked for LAUSD, finally retiring at age 79. Mary leaves behind her loving husband Chuck, daughters Kathryn (husband Joe Merkovsky) and Carol, and sons, Charles (Wafa Barakat) and David (wife Shannon). She will be missed by her grandchildren Jake and Monica Merkovsky; Anthony, Nikolas, and Katrina Wianecki; and Audrey and Natalie Carevich. Mary also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Frances Misetich. She will be remembered lovingly by her many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and past co-workers. A rosary will be held for her at McNerney's Mortuary on Wednesday, February 5th at 7:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 5:00 p.m. Her funeral will be on Thursday, February 6th, at 10:30 a.m. at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, and interment at All Souls Cemetery.
