Pasquale DiBernardo "Pat"
On December 10, 2012 Pat passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Pat was born in Ischia, Italy on July 28, 1923 to Aniello and Maria Grazia DiBernardo. At the age of 14 he came with this father to San Pedro. While living in San Pedro he worked in the fishing, construction, and shipbuilding industries. In 1989, he retired from Todd Shipyard after 30 years where he was also chief chef for many sea trials. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. In 1954 Pat was one of the founding members of the Italian Catholic Federation, Branch 115. He was an active member up until his death. He was devoted to the patron saint of Ischia, San Giovan Giuseppe Della Croce where he was procession chairman of the annual feast. He dedicated many years of volunteer service to Mary Star of the Sea Parish, including 65 years as an usher, over 50 years for the parish fiesta, 22 years in Christian Care program, and over 30 years constructing the Nativity scene with his brother, Tony. One of his favorite past-times was cooking for his family and for many parish functions. In 1946 he married the love of his life, Mary Rose Esposito. Pat is survived by his wife of 66 years and his four children, Mary Grace (Ray) Sandoval, Anna (Neal) DiLeva, Neal (Michelle) DiBernardo, and Michael DiBernardo. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; his sisters, Jean (Phillip) Mazzella, Caroline DiMeglio; brother, Tony (Nancy) DiBernardo; sisters-in-law, Angie Albano, Dorothy Esposito and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carmine and daughter-in-law, Betty DiBernardo. The family wants to thank Dr. Carmen Capodanno, Dr. James French and Dr. James Schmidt along with the entire staff at San Pedro Providence Hospital and Seacrest Convalescent Hospital for all of the special care given to Pat. Visitation will be held Friday, December 14 from 11:00AM-12:30PM at McNerney's Mortuary, 570 W. 5th Street, San Pedro. Rosary and funeral mass will be offered Friday, December 14, 1:30PM at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 877 West 7th St, San Pedro with interment to follow at Green Hills Memorial Park.
