Phillip Karl Charnell

Phillip Karl Charnell, age 87, went home to be with his Lord on May 9, 2013. He was born in Seattle, WA on February 2, 1926 to Marie and Karl Charnell. He moved to the Los Angeles basin when he was two and lived in Southern California all his life. He married his high school sweetheart Jackie Shafer in 1946, and they were married 66 years. He was a long-time member of University Christian Church in Los Angeles.He attended Inglewood High and El Camino College, served in the U.S. Navy as a radio technician during World War II, and retired after 43 years from McDonnell Douglas. He was an Eagle Scout, was active in Troop 851 as an adult, and was an amateur ham radio operator in the South Bay area most of his adult life. He loved fishing, camping and the outdoors. Phil is survived by his wife Jackie, children Sharon (Ron) Gherman of Alaska, Cathy (Doc) Asay of Wyoming, and Jim (Maria) Charnell of California, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and his dog Shelby. No services are pending.
