1920 - 2012

It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of William John McCrae on September 26, 2012 at the age 92 Torrance, California. What a life! Born on July 23, 1920 to Dr. and Mrs. W.G. Turner, John grew up in Montreal, Canada. With four years of Royal Military college behind him John went to sea as an officer. As the anti-submarine officer on board several of his Majesty's Canadian ships he was at war at the sharp end during the six year battle of the Atlantic, finishing as captain aboard the "HMCS Orangeville". John earned his master's degree in mechanical engineering at Cornell University. John relocated to the US in the late 60s and became a US citizen. He worked for the City of Manhattan Beach and retired in Torrance where he is survived by his loving wife, Alice Reynolds Turner; his stepdaughter, Stacey Reynolds and his stepson, Brian Reynolds. The rest of his lineage resides mostly in Quebec and New Brunswick, ex-wife, Dorothy Strong and 5 children, Robin, Christopher, Ian Geoffrey and Stephanie plus the 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren mourn his passing.
