Joe passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 93. He leaves behind his adoring wife, Dorothy; his children Teri, Richard, Craig, Michael and Laura; his grandchildren Deesa, Circe, Christian, Michael, Shaun, Charlie, Sam, Angela, Emma, Kiara, and Charlie-Joe; and his great grandchildren Scarlet, Taylor, Ryan, and Aaden.
Born in Newcastle, Indiana, he was a true Californian, loving to be near the ocean in his home in Palos Verdes Estates.
Joe lived a full and joyful life with his deep love for his family, his wonderful sense of humor and his fierce patriotism. A
World War II
vet, he served as a medic in the South Pacific. Retired from Los Angeles Unified Schools after 39 years, his favorite activity was playing tennis, playing as a teenager, teaching his sons to play, and taking on his friends when he was 90!
He and Dorothy were world travelers, exploring the castles of Spain, the Greek islands, bicycling down Haleakala and sailing down the Rhine on a river barge.
Joe volunteered at Torrance Memorial Medical Center for 20 years and initiated the pet therapy program with his dog, Goldie.
Per his wishes there will be no funeral. A memorial celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Donations in his name may be made to: TMMC , 3330 Lomita Blvd. Torrance, 90505. Please sign the guestbook at
