Alex Bobby Legaspi Obituary

Bobby passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the age of 87, after a long illness. He was born and raised on Terminal Island and a long time resident of Wilmington and San Pedro. He served in the Army during WWII. He worked for 28 years for Long Beach Navel Station as a sheet metal worker and then became an instructor at Harbor Occupation Center for 14 years. Bobby was married to his childhood sweetheart, Florence Balcena (deceased) for 65 years. Our dad was a great athlete in many sports and was inducted into the first Men's Softball Hall of Fame in 1962. He played for the San Pedro Merchants who won World Championships in '53, '54 and '55. In his retirement years, he loved traveling, camping in his motor home and going to all the family parties. He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his sons, Alex, Robert, Michael, James, and John; his sweet daughter, Tamis; daughters-in-law, Agnes, Gayle, Sue, Nora, Linda, Beverly and Loni. His legacy lives on in his 17 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Bobby will truly be missed, but will live on forever in the hearts of many. Visitation will be from 3pm-8pm on Sunday, November 21 and funeral service will be at 9am on November 22, both at Green Hills Memorial Park, RPV.

To my wonderful Grandfather. Well it has been a hard few weeks knowing that you will not be here with us any longer. I wanted to now put down my memories. I am so blessed that I was able to live around the corner from you & Grandma. Those were very difficult times of my life and you both were there to help out even if it was with your kind words of advise. I'm so glad that my kids had the pleasure of knowing you both personally. You defintely made an impact on my kids life. I want to thank you for always being there. You were always proud of the person I've become and showed so much interest in my work. Even as your health started to dwindle you still would ask about my job. I will continue to make you proud & I promise to continue to raise my kids how you taught us to be. I love you very much and will miss you everyday for the rest of my life. Until we meet again in the heavens above, enjoy your new chapter with Grandma once again by your side. I love you :) Your Granddaughter Stephanie
