Alfred "Al" Schafer
Alfred "Al" Schafer passed away August 15, 2013. He was born on October 11, 1924 in Cedar Rapids, NE. He, along with his twin brother and nine siblings, was raised in Albion, NE. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943. While recuperating from wounds in England, he met the Love of his Life, Mary. They were married June 9, 1945. They moved to Torrance in 1957, where Al worked for Hostess Cake until 1984. He is survived by sons David and Chris (Maggie); daughters MaryLisa and Teresa (Bill); 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four brothers and one sister. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary; sons John and Stephen; grandson Mark; mother Clara; father William; daughter-in-law Debra; two brothers; and three sisters. He will be greatly missed. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Rice Mortuary on Thursday August 22 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm with the Vigil service beginning at 7:00 pm.
