Alice Jess Obituary

December 18, 1921 - September 27, 2010
Alice passed away peacefully after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Her 11 children, 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren remember her with love, affection and gratitude. Born and raised in Medford, MA, Alice attended St. Anne's Episcopal Boarding School for Girls. She is predeceased by her be loved brother, Thomas Farnum; as well as her parents, Lorenzo and Harriet Farnum. In 1941, at a USO event, a ping pong game with Coast Guard fellow Charles led to a 61 year long love affair. With five children, they left Massachusetts in 1951 to settle in Southern California. Six more children were born here and Alice was busy for many years raising her family of two boys and nine girls. She also devoted years of volunteer time to her church, St. Michael the Archangel in El Segundo, as Alter Guild director. Throughout her life, Alice was devoted to the service of God, her family and her community; to those in need anywhere in the world. She had a big heart and was a fond of saying "I enjoy life! I love everyone!" She will be missed dearly. Viewing and rosary at Holy Cross Mortuary, Culver City, Friday, October 15, 2010 from 4pm - 7pm. Funeral Mass at St. Cross Episcopal Church, 1818 Monterey Blvd., Hermosa Beach, CA 90254, Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the National Alzheimer's Disease Association or the Visiting Nurses Association of Banning, CA.

We will all miss mom, but know she is with the Lord. She ran the race and finished well, and has now thrown her crown at the feet of Jesus. The hope of eternal life and knowing we will see her again brings joy and happiness. Many memories, great love, sayings and such remain deep and alive.

I sat next to Mom in the back seat of the car, headed home. Mom showed me the new baby in her arms. Mom not another girl I said. Thomas and I made our way out of the house to the back yard trailer. No sisters allowed!

From Edie and Rick in Calimesa: We are happy to have had the privilege of getting to know Alice. She was able to visit at our home twice and our parish church and attend social events sponsored by our fraternal group. You know, she always told us that she had eleven children! Shalom from us.
