Ante Bacoka Obituary
Ante Bacoka
Passed away peacefully on Monday, August 13, 2012 at his family's home in San Pedro, CA. He was born in Kukljica, Croatia on June 15, 1923. Ante served in the Croatian army during WWII before moving his family to the United States. He has been a resident of San Pedro, CA for 46 years. He was employed at the Starkist Cannery with his wife and daughter before retirement. Ante is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rajka Bacoka; daughter, Vjerina (Ante) Jaksic; son, Dinko (Blazenka) Bacoka; grandchildren: Linda (Jerry) Poland, Kristina (Alen) Juric, Melissa (Nathan) Ramsay, Sindy Jaksic, and Dino Bacoka; and great-grandchildren: Tristan, Tatum, and Teagan Ramsay, Ethan and Isabella Poland, Harlow Jaksic, Ema and Roko Juric. Ante was known as "Dido" to his 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. They will always remember his kindness and generosity. Dido always carried Lifesavers and Juicy Fruits in his pockets and was always happy to share. He loved going for walks, especially around the marina and down Gaffey Street to meet his coffee buddies. Ante also enjoyed the occasional seniors' bus trip to the casinos. He never did hit it big, but he always enjoyed the company. Visitation will be held on Thursday, 3 - 8 p.m. at McNerney's Mortuary. A funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, August 17 at 12:00 pm at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 870 W Eighth Street, San Pedro, CA 90731. Entombment will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S. Western Avenue Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ante's honor to Sveti Paole in Kuidjica, Croatia in care of Vjerina Jaksic. Please sign the guestbook at www.mcnerneysmortuary.com or dailybreeze.com.
