Barbara R. Crew Obituary

Barbara Crew, a Torrance resident of more than 60 years, passed away peacefully in her home on November 15, 2010. Barbara was born June 8, 1921 in Boston, MA. Barbara graduated from Amesbury High School and shortly afterwards joined the US Navy. She served her country as a tabulator equipment operator after attending Hunter College in New York. She was active in the US Navy during WWII, from September 23, 1943 until January 4, 1946. During her term of service, she met her future husband, J.W. Crew, a Marine, whom she married on October 15, 1945, and together moved to California. They purchased their first home in the early 1950's and never moved. They both spent 50 wonderful years together in the home they loved. Barbara was a member of the Catholic Daughters at Nativity Catholic Church in Torrance and also was the president of the American Legion Auxilliary from 1955-1956. Barbara loved to bowl and spent many years enjoying the sport. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Crew; and granddaughter, Michelle. Barbara is survived by her only child, Carol Lippen and son-in-law, Jeff; grandsons, Jeffrey (Marisa), Nicolas, Thomas and great grandchildren, Hailey, Sarah, Makenzie, and Mason; brothers, Allen and Ken (Ruth); and many nieces and nephews. To all that knew and loved her, Barbara will be greatly missed. Graveside services to be held Saturday, November 20, 11:00am at Green Hills Memorial Park and a Celebration of Life at her home in Torrance immediately following. Carol, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I have many fond memories of being at your house when we were little girls at Nativity. I've known your family since we were 7! I remember the camping trip we took. I had a good time, just hated the bugs. Your parents were always so nice to me. Take care. Sue Trutanic (Petruccelli)
