Bertha "Bert" Durmanich (1930-2012)
Bertha Durmanich passed away peacefully July 4, 2012 at her home in San Pedro with her husband of 55 years, John and their three loving daughters, Pauline Bozanich, Adele Dragovich, and Anette Massey by her side. She would have celebrated her 82nd birthday on July 17. Bertha is also survived by her three son-in-laws, Louie Bozanich, Geno Dragovich, and Bill Massey, 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, her brother, Carlos Hernandez, sister, Alice Saffell, and many nieces and nephews. Bertha was born in 1930 in Douglas, Arizona and spent the majority of her life in San Pedro, beginning at Barton Hill Elementary School, which she was a proud alumnus, and ending at San Pedro High School. Bertha, along with her mother, owned Tarta's Mexican Food Restaurant in San Pedro. She then went on to work for Continental Can Company on Terminal Island. She was an avid bowler on many leagues at Pacific Bowling Alley and loved regular poker nights with her friends. Bertha and John traveled to many places over the years, but their favorite vacation spots were Mazatlan and Las Vegas, where they returned each year for many years. Bertha was a vivacious, fun-loving woman whose husband and family always came first. We love you and will miss you Honey, Mom and Nana. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2012, 1:00 pm at Green Hills Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hobertoberman. It was an honor to be your "adopted" Goddaughter (thanks for sharing, Megan!). I remember when you let us play in the pool while you and my dad played cribbage.. and on Christmas Eve when you let me in the "Red Room" for the first time. And after got older I got to laugh with you over our own cribbage game in Mazatlan.
Peace and gratitude.

Dearest Durmanich Family,
I am so sorry for your loss, but happy that Bertha is now in heaven resting peacefully & comfortably. It is not a surprise to me that she passed on the 4th of July.....as she herself lit up the room like a firecracker and it is only fitting that she went out of this world with a big bang! I will continue to remember her when I smell gardenias as that was her favorite flower...
Lots of love to you all~

John, Anette, Adele and Pauline,
When I think of Bertha, I smile. She was the best host and a great cook. I often reflect on the beautiful moments of my childhood and within those are the camping trips to Three Rivers, learning to swim in your pool and the overall acceptance of me into your family. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Love,

Dear John, Pauline, Adele and Annette:
Out thoughts and prayers are with you. Aunt Bertha brings only great memories of visiting as a child and playing with the cousins. "Don't forget your trunks" she would say. She would always stress education and athletics to my brothers and I, and lately to my two sons. We will be offering masses to the repose of her soul. God bless you always,

Dear John & Family:
Both Felo and I were greatly saddened by the news of Bert's passing. We have so many wonderful memories of Bert and John on our many trips we made together. No matter where we went, Europe, Canada and U.S., Bert made friends with the locals. She's a fun loving person and was always a pleasure to be with. We had great times playing cards at her home, she was a great hostess. Our prayers are for you John and your family and may God bless you and your family.
Love, Felo and Betty Villaloboz

Dear Uncle John, Pauline, Adele and Annette,
The news of "Aunt Tete's" passing was very hard to take. I have nothing but wonderful and fond memories of my favorite Aunt. Swimming, Christmas Eve parties, Bobby Sox softball and little league baseball memories are pouring into my mind along with all the wonderful times spent together. I am forever grateful to belong to a wonder family and to remember the special times we were able to spend together. Please know that you are in our prayers during this sacred and solemn time.
Sincerely,
Ron Saffell and Family (Lauri, Camron, McRae, Maren, Cooper and Chase)

Dear John and family,
I was greatly blessed to have Tete as my aunt. As my brothers and I grew, Tete was always a great example of how to enjoy life and live it to it's full. It was Tete who encouraged me to attend college and for this I will always be grateful. You and your family are in my prayers and I will say a rosary for my much loved aunt. I ask that the Lord bless and keep you, may his face always shine upon you and your family, and bring you peace.
Much Love,
Jack Saffell
