Betty Rogers Obituary

Surrounded by family, Betty Lou Laney Rogers, slipped away peacefully, after a battle with cancer, on August 17th, 2010. Betty was born January 16th, 1930 in Indiana to Edward and Pearl Laney. She married Hubert (Joe) Rogers on August 12, 1949 in Redondo Beach. To this union were born 3 children Richard (Doris), Robert Bob (Kim), and Becky. Betty loved sports and was an avid softball player and coach for more than 25 years. In her later years she enjoyed her family, grandchildren, volunteering, and bowling, just to name a few. Betty served as an integral part of PTA , City of Torrance Planning Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, where she received the National Parks and Recreation Award, and also helped start the City of Torrance Yellow Ribbon Girl's Softball Program. All the while she served as president of Tri-Gray YMCA program and volunteered at Torrance Memorial Hospital. Once she "retired" and moved to the Lake House she couldn't help but find a place to lend another helping hand. She then began volunteering at Murrieta Police Department and AARP 43rd Congressional District Committee. She found that was not enough and began volunteering with Riverside County Advisory Council Office on Aging and Grandparents Raising Grandchildren. She loved to help and serve in anyway she could throughout the community and touched many people in her lifetime with her kindness. Betty is survived by her children (above), grandchildren, great grandchildren, (who lovingly referred to her as G.G.) and many special nieces and nephews. She loved and guided her children and grandchildren. All our lives were blessed by her love and we will miss her loving smile and warm hugs. At her request no services were conducted. Interment in the National Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice or one she donated to: Lakeland Village Volunteer Fire Dept (Lake Elsinore, Ca.), Cancer Society, or Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. I am incredibly saddened with this news. Betty took me under her wing at Standard Homeopathic Company and treated me as if I was her daughter. She was such a special woman. I am heartbroken for your loss. She was amazing.

Grandma, I love you with all my heart. Your loving voice I long to hear, your giving ways are truly near, and your absence is heartfelt. There are days I just can’t live without you. The lifetime of loving memories you left will carry on in my heart. You taught me to be kind, honest, and love unconditionally. I only wish I can be half the woman you were. Grandma, I love you always, Kimberly xoxoxoxo
