Carolyn as a lovely friend and neighbor. Our best memories were during the fall months, Carolyn loved Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. We would always get together and enjoy her company, her kindness, her love of her beautiful children, their friends, her students and teachers at the school where she taught and her extended family. Carolyn was a caring woman with a big heart and great soul. We always will remember her kind and gentle ways, bless you Carolyn for making our lives better in our Friendship.
Love always,

Carolyn was a wonderful woman with incredible talent. My family lived behind her. She was also my high school fashion design teacher at Mira Costa for 4 years and the woman who convinced me to enter the El Camino fashion show and I won, all because of her support. She also is the one who introduced me to FIDM where I graduated in 2007. I have so many fond memories of her and am deeply saddened by this news. She will be greatly missed. All of our love and support. -The Gallos on meadows ave

Carolyn was such a sweet girl in our shared school days at Timothy and Luther, and from her obituary I see she grew into a very beautiful, loving, and loved woman. So sorry to hear of the family's loss, as well as for her many friends. She will be glowing in heaven. Our sympathy and prayers to all.

"I was saddened to hear of Carolyn's passing at dinner on New Year's Eve with high school life-long friends, all who knew Carolyn. I had the good fortune of knowing Carolyn as a classmate in both grade school and high school. At Timothy School, I remember her cheerful, positive outlook and her signature blonde pony tail. Carolyn always had a wide, bright smile for you. We reminisced about her and others at our 50th grade school reunion this past October. Carolyn and her family are in the thoughts and prayers of many. Rest in peace-you will be missed Carolyn..."

I just today heard the sad news of Carolyn's passing - a shock as I had no idea she was so ill. Carolyn was a classmate of mine through Timothy Grade School and Luther High School South. Although I haven't spoken with her in years, I remember her distinctly. When I opened the obituary page and saw her picture, I remarked to my husband "That's how I remember Carolyn. She hasn't changed a bit." She was always cheerful and charming. Based on my memories, it's easy to understand how she spread love and kindness to others. My sincere condolences to the Hylander and Barthel families on losing her so young. May God provide her dear ones with strength and courage as they adjust to life without their Carolyn.

Carolyn was a classmate at Luther South High School. She was one of the nicest, sweetest people we ever met. Her home was filled with her friends then too. She always smiled and thought of others first. I am so sorry to hear of her passing and offer condolences to her family. We will keep her in our prayers.
