Colby Koenig Obituary

Colby Joshua Koenig, much loved son of John Koenig and Cindy Tobis of Palos Verdes Estates, and brother of Callan Koenig, of Los Angeles passed away on January 12, 2010 at the age of 25. Colby, a 2002 graduate of Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, was working full-time at Iron Mountain, while pursuing a degree in psychology at Cal Poly Pomona. Enthusiastically interested in athletics, Colby played baseball in the Rolling Hills Little League and the Pony League, as well as AYSO soccer. At PVPHS, Colby ran cross country and did track and field. He earned the Eagle Scout award in Troop 783. Colby enjoyed snowboarding, loved car races, playing his guitars and having barbeques with his many wonderful friends. A celebration of Colby's life will be held on Sunday, January 17 at 4:15 p.m. at the Pt. Vicente Interpretive Center, 31501 Palos Verdes Drive West, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in Colby's name to Holt International Children's Services, P.O. John, Cindy and Callan:

It has been many years since I have seen you. But I have a vivid memory of Colby's wide grin when you took the entire Product Planning Department at Toyota up to the hills to drive 4WD vehicles off road. Even then, he had a joy and love of life that was contagious.

I can only imagine your incredible pain as I look at my own two young sons. May the memories of your time together ease your sorrow, and may you find strength in knowing that so many people all around the country will remember you and him and grieve with you.

Dear Cindy, John, and Callan,

I was very touched by Colby's memorial celebration on Sunday. There was quite an outpouring of love, not only by your family, but by his many friends. I haven't seen Colby since high school when Elizabeth ran cross country and track, but from the comments made on Sunday I can see he grew up to be quite a fine young man.

I am truly sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how difficult a time this is for all of you. Losing a child at such a young age is tragic. Cherish the many happy memories of Colby that you have and be gentle on yourselves as you go through the grieving process.

Love,

Raye Murphy

The outpouring of love from the 250 people who attended Colby's Celebration of Life was so heart-warming to us, his parents & sister. The wonderful stories that were told meant so very much to us, as did the kind words, warm hugs & kisses, & support.

We sincerely thank all of you who attended, those who sent us food, cards, flowers, & gifts. Colby would have been impressed by these expressions of love & caring.

Colby's passing away has left an enormous hole in our lives & in the lives of his terrific friends. We grieve for them as we grieve for Colby & want to keep in touch with them & surround them with our love. That's the least that we can do to thank them for being friends with our beautiful Colby with the contagious smile.

We long for Colby's presence & are having difficulty accepting that we can never see & be with him.

Please keep us in your thoughts, as you all are in ours.

If you go to www.LAfuneral.com, you can view the video of Colby's life. A webcast of the Celebration will be up on this same site soon.

DEAR JOHN, CINDY & CALLAN,

We were so moved by 'Colby's Celebration of Life,' a beautiful gathering to share so many wonderful cherished memories with family and friends.

It is clear the world has lost a truly special young man. His photos show such energy, spirit and happiness. His friends spoke fondly about his wit, gentle ways, and friendship. He obviously touched all those around him. He should have stayed on this earth for many more years; we regret his untimely passing.

We walked away from Colby's Celebration wishing we knew him better than just a neighborly wave.

May God's love guide you during this time of sorrow, and may you find solace in His care. Your cherished memories will give you comfort, and we know you will continue to deal with your loss by celebrating his life.

You are in our hearts,.

With Love, Harv and Ruth Daniels
