Donald R. Ogren, 92, a 60-year resident of Torrance, passed away on February 21, 2013 of natural age-related causes. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on May 26, 1920. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, including 18 months in the "Asiatic Pacific Theater" taking him to the Phillippines, Japan, Palau and the Marshall Islands. In 1952, he moved to Torrance with his wife, Lila and two young children, Dennis and Carol. He worked as an accountant for 18 years for Pan American Airlines and Carnation Co. and 20 years as a property manager for the state of California, Cal-Trans. Besides his family and friends, his biggest passion in life was music. He sang as a professional soloist at several local churches, numerous weddings and was a cantor at Temple Beth El, in San Pedro. He also played the piano and violin. Some other interests and passions included photography, gardening, furniture making, painting, fishing, traveling, playing bridge, crossword puzzles, cooking and golfing. He is survived by his children, Dennis (Rica) and Carol (Thomas); 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lila and his brother, Roland (Bud). The family would like to thank Jojie Nocon (Joy Loving Care), Rosa Escalante, Bing Reyes, Brendelette and Donald Wright for all they did to help take care of our father in his last years. A Memorial Service will be held at 1st Lutheran Church, 2900 W. Carson St., in Torrance on Saturday, March 9,2013, at 12:00 p.m.; reception to follow.
