Doris Lorraine Wood Anderson Obituary
Doris Lorraine Wood Anderson

Doris "Lorraine" Wood Anderson, beloved wife, mother and sister, died at home on May 14, 2013 in Menifee, California at age 81. She is survived by her husband, Charlie Anderson; a son, Michael Anderson and four daughters, Patricia Anderson Mann, Jackie Anderson Thornton, Donna Anderson Mitchell and Joni Anderson Buyser; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Walter A. Wood and Ronald W. Wood, both of Pittsylvania County, Virginia and one sister, Louise Wood Vann of Dothan, Alabama. Lorraine Wood, the daughter of John and Mary Inman Wood, was born July 15, 1931 near Dry Fork in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. She grew up on a farm with eight brothers and four sisters. She attended Whitmell Farm Life School. After school and on weekends she helped her father, who owned and ran a general store on Franklin Turnpike, which is still owned by the Wood family today. She graduated from National Business College in Roanoke, Virginia and worked as an executive secretary for a car dealership, the Swift Meat Packing Company and then at the Dan River Mill. While working there she met fellow employee, Charlie Anderson, a WWII veteran and a musician in a local blue grass band. They married in 1952 and moved to Southern California in 1953. In California, Lorraine and Charlie began attending Community Baptist Church of Hermosa Beach. After hearing the gospel message, she asked Jesus to be her Savior and was baptized in 1954. She was mentored in her faith by the godly women she met as an active member of the Women's Missionary Fellowship. In 1984, Charlie retired from Rockwell International and he and Lorraine moved back to Danville, Virginia after purchasing the house Lorraine had always dreamed of owning, Doctor Fuller's ante-bellum style mansion on Franklin Turnpike. They joined Mt. Hermon Baptist Church and served there for ten years, then moved their membership to Westover Baptist Church where their daughter and her family attended. In 2001 Lorraine suffered two strokes and faced a difficult recovery. In 2003 Lorraine and Charlie moved to Menifee, California to be closer to their children and grandchildren. In 2008 Lorraine Anderson joined the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and was a member of the Luiseno Chapter of Temecula Valley. Lorraine's greatest joy in life was to share her faith in Jesus Christ with everyone she met. She was a wonderful example of the Proverbs 31 mother and wife. She leaves behind a legacy of children and grandchildren who love and serve the Lord because of her. A Memorial Service will be held at Journey of Faith in Manhattan Beach, California on May 20th at 7:00 P.M. A Burial Service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery on May 22nd at 12:30 P.M.
