Dorothy Bowman Obituary

Dorothy Bowman was born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 22, 1915 to Helen and Robert Sinton. She passed away in Harbor City, California on August 21, 2010. Dorothy married Harry Bowman in 1945. He passed away in 1986. They made their home in Rolling Hills Estates, California where they both shared their love of animals and Southern California life. They had a yard full of raccoons, skunks, cats and possums. Dorothy graduated from high school in Boston as valedictorian of her class. She attended Hickock Secretarial School. She was employed as an executive secretary in the legal department by a worldwide insurance company. She retired in 1978 after working for 37 years. She was an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church since the 1960s. She and Harry donated generously to the church. Dorothy had a non-stop sense of humor and used it well with great timing. She was cared for the last six years at Fronar Care Services, very lovingly by Armi and her staff. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Florence and her husband, Frank Bartley. She is survived by nephew, Robert Bartley and family, niece, Roberta Stotesbury and family, and Harry's nieces, Marge Duer, Nan Graham and Bobbie Jo Irish. The family wishes to acknowledge the support and friendship of Ann Jung, Regina Lande, Dita Lantz, Betty Johnson, Father Art Bartlett, Daisey Carr and Dorothy Daigh. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held Sunday, December 5, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Peters Church, 1648 Ninth Street, San Pedro, California. She will be interred in the columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Alzheimer's Association. Please sign guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits

I will always remember Dorothy for the lovely lady that she was --- she always had a smile and kind word for her friends and neighbors and her kindness was extended to all stray cats and the wild creatures that lived in the canyon behind her home. She is missed and thought of kindly by those of us who were her neighbors.

We thank the clegy, staff and members of St. Peter's for the friendship and support they gave to Aunt Dotty. She often spoke of the fellowship she enjopyed while preparing and serving church lunches. She also spoke with pride of her rhyming vestry minutes. St. Peter's was the center of her life.
In loving memory,

Bobby Jo Irish, Moline, IL
Marg Duer, Palatine, IL
