Elio Joseph Baiocchi Obituary

December 27, 1919 - October 23, 2010
Elio (E.J.) was many things in his life. He was a soldier in the Army Corp of Engineers serving in the Aleutian Islands during World War II, he was an architect and a contractor, but most of all he was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. Alzheimer's disease robbed him of many productive years but it never robbed him of his warm, loving, gentle spirit. He left this world a better place for those who loved him and will always miss him. He now joins the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Barbara Jane, who preceded him in 2006, as well as his mother, Italia, father, Eugenio, and sister, Flora. Elio was born in Chicago of Italian immigrant parents and moved to California as a child. His last years were spent in San Pedro, where he loved to watch the port industry and monitor the ships in the harbor. He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Lonna and Sam Calhoun, Philip and Aida Baiocchi, Alan and Lisa Baiocchi, Laura and Mark Stratton. He will be very much missed by his grandchildren, Andrea Browning, J. Carter Calhoun, Matthew Marsden, Taylor and Kyle Stratton, Talia and Damian Baiocchi; his sister, Elma Walter and many nieces, nephews and friends who will celebrate his life during services that will be held at Green Hills Mortuary Chapel on November 5, 2010 at 11:00am. He was loved by all who knew him for his laughter, love, kindness and gentleness. Donations are requested in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association www.alz.org.
