Elio Baiocchi Obituary

December 27, 1919 - October 23, 2010

Elio (E.J.) was many things in his life. He was a soldier in the Army Corps of Engineers serving in the Aleutian Islands during World War II, he was an architect and a contractor, but most of all he was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. Alzheimer's disease robbed him of many productive years but it never robbed him of his warm, loving, gentle spirit. He left this world a better place for those who loved him and will always miss him. He now joins the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Barbara Jane, who preceded him in 2006, as well as his mother, Italia, father, Eugenio, and sister, Flora. Elio was born in Chicago of Italian immigrant parents and moved to California as a child. His last years were spent in San Pedro, where he loved to watch the port industry and monitor the ships in the harbor. He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Lonna and Sam Calhoun, Philip and Aida Baiocchi, Alan and Lisa Baiocchi, Laura and Mark Stratton. He will be very much missed by his grandchildren, Andrea Browning, J. Carter Calhoun, Matthew Marsden, Taylor and Kyle Stratton, Talia and Damian Baiocchi; his sister, Elma Walter and many nieces, nephews and friends who will celebrate his life during services that will be held at Green Hills Mortuary Chapel on November 5, 2010 at 11:00am. He was loved by all who knew him for his laughter, love, kindness and gentleness. Donations are requested in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association www.alz.org. Al, It was such a pleasure knowing you and Barbra. I remember the times we laughed and worked up a sweat while performing projects at your property on Christine Pl in Fullerton, Ca. You and Barbra were so kind to me and I really enjoyed our lunches at the local Fullerton eateries. Thank you and Barbra for coming to my wedding in 1992 in the pouring rain. You really left your mark on Fullerton designing custom built homes there. You were a marvelous person and very down to earth. Really enjoyed dinners in your captains nest hillside home in San Pedro. With much admiration,
Ron Williams

Uncle Al, you were and will always be a great inspiration in my life. I will always remember the Baiocchi/Walter/Luongo "Rat Pack" with 3 of the most endearing men in our lives, You, Don and Mike. Well you are all back together, watch out for the "clip". Give Aunt Barbara a big hug for all of us and tell Granny "she now deserva"...love you, Richie and Dawn

Uncle Al was part of a hard-working, loving, and responsible generation that we will never see again. The trio of Uncle Al, Uncle Mike, and my Dad (Don Walter)along with their spouses Barbara, Flora, and my mom (Elma) gave us an unbelievable foundation of hard work and family as well as years of memories that genuinely speak to who we are today. I am so proud and honored to have had them in my life and will cherish their past influence and advice as well as the memorable family parties that kept us all connected. We are truly unique among our peers in that we have stayed connected as family to this day. We owe it all to them. I will always remember Uncle Al as the man he was - young at heart, sensitive and caring, loving his family above all else, and always available as friend and mentor. I will truly miss him but know that he is finally surrounded by his father, mother Italia, sister Flora, and aunts and uncles who have preceded him. That's one party I would truly want to see.

Love,
Jim Walter (nephew), Yorba Linda, CA

To our family and friends who have expressed their condolences on our loss. Our parents were the most wonderful and loving parents. While it is painful to have lost them both now we can only be grateful that they have blessed our lives. Few families have the wealth of loving and fun memories that we share. Thank you friends and family for loving dad and for sharing in our grief and celebration of his life.
