Dear Megan,
Just heard of the passing of your mom. I know it was a few years ago now, but just wanted to pay my respects. Thought of you over the years. Homecoming and football games. Remember us carpooling in your bug to LBSU? Fun times.

Dear George, Megan, Charlie and family of Mrs. Beck,
I had the good fortune of being a student in Mrs. Beck's class at Ramona School in the 1967-1968 school year. I knew then that Mrs. Beck was a wonderful teacher, but I only realized how very extraordinary she was after my own children had been to elementary school. I particularly remember her large book cupboard; I think it would be impossible to complete a school year in her class and not love to read! Another favorite memory was her "manners" lessons in which she bought cartons of orange juice for each student, and we were taught proper etiquette. I remember attending square dancing classes after school with Mrs. Beck as our teacher. Mrs. Beck was the teacher in charge of the student council; it was so much fun to go to meetings because she was there. When it came time to go to Independence Hall at Knott's Berry Farm, Mrs. Beck came up with a plan in which the old PTA popcorn machine was dusted off and put back into service in order to raise enough money for admission to the park; I wonder now how much of her own money went into that project as well as the numerous cool and unique art projects that the other classes were not doing! I often thought about Mrs. Beck, and I contacted her in 2001. My cousins and I visited with her and George at their home, and at the art gallery where she explained techniques of painting to my son who was working on an assignment for a humanities class in high school. Mrs. Beck was patient and kind beyond comparison. For those of us who were blessed to have her as our 5th grade teacher, memories of her will live forever. Thank you for sharing her with us!

I had Mrs. Beck for my 5th. grade teacher in the early 70's. There was no other teacher like her from her haunted houses in the cafeteria to the "zoo" behind her classroom filled with rabbits, ducks, a pig named Claudia and even a goat named E.T. (eats trash). What other teacher would give you the keys to the classroom so you could feed the animals on weekends? We lived right down the street from the school and she entrusted her classroom and animals to our care. And we never let her down. My sister, cousin and I got in touch with her in 2001 and she invited us to her beautiful home. We had lunch and traded stories of "those days" and she even had pictures saved of us and many other students over the years that she taught. We still talk about all that we've learned from her and we still quote sayings that she said. May all her family draw comfort from the fact that she left a lasting legacy in all the students she taught over the years. She lives on in all of us. Rest in peace Mrs. Beck....you were loved by many.

We will miss Alma. She was a wonderful and generous person, as is George. We will always remember their hospitality at New Year's when they hosted the Pt. Fermin Flyers. We will miss seeing her on the trails of PV. We remember her marathons in Catalina. A very talented lady will be missed by many. Our condolences to George and her children.

Mrs. Beck use to tutor me at the San Pedro library. I am so sorry to hear that she passed away. I will always remember hear as a great person. The last time I heard from her was a year ago when she send me a Christmas card with a picture of her family. I remember when she invited me to see her paintings at the gallery. I really liked her paintings. She was always helping me when I did not understand my homework. I will miss her. My thoughts are with her family.Natalie Rangel

Dear Beck Family,
What a wonderful person your wife and mother was, but of course you already know this. We were SO saddened to hear of her death.
I met Elma many years ago through Art to Grow On, she was a supporter and an artist herself. My husband later met her walking the trails with her dog and they got to talking. Joey and Elma talked at length about a painting he wanted her to do of 'his' surf spot! They walked trails, she took photos, then we went to her home to discuss the painting and to see her other works.
Through the years we have exchanged notes and Christmas cards. We have gone to her art shows at the PV Art Center. Our Elma Beck original holds a very special place in our home and hearts. We will truly miss her. We were so lucky to have met her.

There just aren't enough words to describe how special Elma, your wife, your Mother, your Mother and Sister-law, your grandmother and great-grand mother was. She was also a very special Aunt. I also speak on behalf of Her elder sister - my mother, and Uncle Hokey who had continued passing on the most amazing things about Auntie Elma for as long as a can remember.
Richard and I will always recall with a smile and a warm heart when Auntie Elma and Uncle George visited us in Rome, and their desire to ride bicyles round all those seven hills rather be chauferred around in a car.
Richard and I both appreciated the time a very busy Aunt took off to show us her, home, her art, the galleries and also to Uncle George, who didn't always feel his best and all of you could make the time over the last 9 years to visit with us during our times in LA.
We may not have had a chance to meet you all but we know how proud and how much she loved you all.
Family was first to Auntie Elma.
Our hearts go out to each and everyone of you.
