Frances Artigue Woodcock was born March 16, 1922 in Gardena, CA. She had a happy childhood with brother Henry and a large extended family with "dozens of cousins." She graduated from Gardena High School in 1940. When they were both 17, she met her future husband, "Art" Woodcock. She graduated from Compton Junior College in spring, 1942. She continued on to UCLA, graduating in spring, 1944, having studied kinesiology. She was engaged to her beloved Art in 1943 while he was on leave from the Marines. She taught at Whittier High School in 1945 and 1946 and married Art on March 9, 1946 at the Methodist Church in Gardena, CA 3 weeks after he returned from the WWII Pacific Theater. She also taught for 2 years at Dana Junior High School in San Pedro while living in Torrance. They had three children: Lore who arrived July 20, 1949, Andrew, February 17, 1951 and Curtis, November 1, 1955. Frances taught a physical education class for Los Angeles Unified School District in Gardena for 28 years. Frances lived in Palos Verdes Estates for 55 years. She was a member of the Palos Verdes Golf Club and remained an honorary member. With Art, Frances attended the First Christian Church of Torrance for 40 years. In 1990 they joined the Rolling Hills Covenant Church. Frances and Art volunteered extensively with their churches and the Salvation Army. She cared for people in need her entire life. She enjoyed entertaining, cooking and baking, sewing, volleyball, softball, golf and playing bridge. She spent her last two years at Villa Sorrento Assisted Living in Torrance. Frances is survived by daughter, Lore Magnus (Bernd) of Riverside; Andy (Rima) of the Seattle area; Curtis (Nigel Shaw) from Boston, 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, 2 nieces, Nancy and Judy, 2 nephews, Ed and Michael, numerous grand and great grand nieces and nephews and many friends. She was universally loved and will be greatly missed. Her memorial service is Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 11 AM on the North Campus of the Rolling Hills Covenant Church, 2221 Palos Verdes Drive North, Rolling Hills, CA.
