Frank Colonna Obituary
Frank Colonna
Frank Colonna, our beloved brother and uncle, was taken into the Lord's arms on Good Friday, April 18, 2014. He conveyed his kindness, love and generosity to all of his family and friends and this loss will truly leave a void in all of our lives. Frank was born on January 11, 1938 on the small island of Ischia, Italy. At the age of two, he came to America, where he would embark on a journey in which he would touch many who would come to know him. He graduated from Mary Star of the Sea High School and attended Los Angeles Harbor College and then exhibited his loyalty as an American, and joined the Army National Guard where he served proudly before embarking on his true calling. His eventual love, the ocean! Learning from his father since the age of twelve, Frank had a natural feel for harvesting the ocean's bounty through commercial fishing. He Captained and owned two fishing vessels. First the Elaine III and then, the Santa Maria. He was a well respected captain by both his crew and his peers as he captained the Santa Maria for over forty years. Frank was always there for those who needed him, and would never turn his back on a family member or friend in need. Frank Colonna is survived by his sisters; Libby Cigliano and Mary (Vince) DiLeva, his nieces and nephews; Anthony (Kimberly) Dileva, Lisa (John) Morreale, Gino (Sarah) Dileva, Paul Cigliano and Mary Ann Cigliano along with his great nieces and nephews, Nicholas and Makayla DiLeva and Matthew Morreale. We would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Giancarlo DiMassa M.D. and Dr. Adrian Shandling M.D. He will be greatly missed by all he touched, and his generosity and incredible caring will remain imbedded in all of our memories forever. Funeral services will be held on Thursday April 24, 2014 at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in San Pedro, with mass being offered at 10:30 a.m. Entombment to follow at Green Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 2100 S. Western Ave., San Pedro, CA 90732. You are welcome to leave the family a message or share memories at McNerneysMortuary.com or DailyBreeze.com.
