Fred John Vulin

Fred John Vulin passed away on Friday, November 16, 2012, in Portland, Oregon, after a heroic battle with cancer. Fred loved his family, his faith, his friends, and journalism. He was born May 29, 1955, to Ante and Grace Vulin. Fred graduated from San Pedro High School in 1973 and from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, in 1977. Fred was a writer for the Daily Breeze, the San Luis Telegram Tribune, the Las Vegas Journal and a copy editor at the Oregonian for 29 years. Fred was an avid marathoner, cyclist and swimmer and also loved basketball, the beach and traveling. He was known for his sharp wit and sense of humor. Most of all he will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, brother, son, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons Ante and Nels; mother, Grace Vulin; brother, Anthony Vulin; sister, Miranda Jelenic, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral mass was held at St. Mary's Cathedral in Portland on November 20, 2012.
