George Dennis Strum, 58, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2012 at his home in San Pedro, California. He is survived by his loving wife Kathy; daughter Amanda; sons Bobby and Jimmy; mother Anita Friend; sister Mary King; niece Jessica King; nephew Ryan King (Jennifer) and their children Danika, Jack and Charlotte. Dennis was born on December 19, 1953 in Saint Louis, Missouri and grew to the age of 9 before the sunny beaches of California drew the family west to Hermosa Beach. He graduated from Redondo Union High School in 1972 after proudly charging his red and white #87 jersey up and down the gridiron as a Sea Hawks tight end. Dennis began forging his work ethic throwing pizzas at the Pizza Palace in Redondo Beach before moving onto his role as an apprentice at a machine shop in Carson. His 28 year career in the aerospace industry led him through various positions ranging from the quality manufacturing of components and structures to programs for tactical weapons systems and human-rated space flight. Despite his many professional accomplishments, Dennis' greatest source of pride was his children. He was an active father who volunteered at school functions and in the classroom. He always had the right tool when there was a bike that needed to be fixed. A dedicated family man and the greatest of neighbors, Dennis shared his impeccable taste for music and his pride in the Dallas Cowboys with his family, friends and anybody within an earshot of his often open front door. In a quest to beat his best score of 84, Dennis pursued his passion for the game of golf by playing some of the world's most acclaimed courses such as Trump National, Torrey Pines, Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill. While his skills at a billiards table were unmatched by many, he was often found at his best while camping on the shores of Lake Isabella and the Kern River with his family and friends. Dennis' friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate a life well lived from 1:00-3:00 PM on Sunday, December 9th, 2012 at Elks Lodge #966 located at 1748 Cumbre Drive, San Pedro, California.
