George R. Finley, Jr. born May 2, 1920 in Dawson, New Mexico died August 8, 2010 in Torrance, CA. Mr. Finley was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Jean; and a younger brother, Lee; and father, George, Sr. He is survived by son, Mark; and daughter, Carol Thielman (Thomas); four grandchildren, Rob Finley, Alissa Finley, Brendan Thielman and Tyler Thielman; as well as three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces; and nephews. Mr. Finley was owner of Finley's Jewelers & Gifts on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. He continued the business begun by his father in 1924 in Compton, CA., after relocating to Palos Verdes in 1962. Mr. Finley was a Past President of the California Jewelers Assn, Past President of the Palos Verdes Chamber of Commerce, longtime board member of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Club, and recipient of the 1983 joint Chamber of Commerce/Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotar Club "Citizen of the Year". He was also a driving force behind the funding and establishment of the Norris Theatre for the Arts in Rolling Hills Estates. His legacy in the jewelry industry continues with daughter Carol (3rd generation) and a grandson (4th generation).
