Gloria Louise Reid Obituary
Gloria Louise Reid

Jan. 5, 1926 - April 26, 2012

Our family matriarch, Gloria Louise Reid, found peace on the morning of Thursday, April 26, 2012. We lost our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Gloria was the loving wife to James, to whom she was devoted for 65 years. Gloria is survived by children, Pamela (Bill) Stecker, Denise (Scott) Johnson; grandchildren, Joshua (Andrea), Justin (Megan), Jason, Jared Stecker, Ryan Robb, and James Johnson; great-grandchildren Ryann, Jacob Stecker, Ryan Robb II; sister, Freida (Sequio) Montoya; brother, Randy Maynard; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Born in Fabens, Texas, to a French-Canadian father and Mexican mother, Gloria and her family left Texas during her youth and settled in San Pedro where she graduated from San Pedro High School. Soon after WWII, she met her handsome, soon-to-be husband, James, whom she was married to for 65 years. She worked various jobs in and around San Pedro, but her favorite was being homemaker and mother to Pamela and Denise. Gloria's love for James was unequalled and after he retired in 1993, they were rarely seen without one another. Sadly, James was called to Heaven on December 22, 2010. Known as "Mom" to her grandchildren and "Go Go" to family and friends, Gloria was incredibly loving and sweet and played a very active role in the lives of her family. From Vegas vacations to family holidays, she always made sure everyone was happy and taken care of. Gloria loved spoiling all of her grandchildren and was fortunate enough to spend quality time with her three great-grandchildren. She lived a life filled with love and compassion and we will miss her dearly, but we're at peace knowing she's back together with James in Heaven. A public Rosary and viewing will be held Thursday, May 3, at 7:00 p.m. at McNerney's Mortuary in San Pedro. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 4, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with interment to follow at Green Hills Memorial Park. Please sign the guestbook and leave your loving memories at www.dailybreeze.com/obits or www.mcnerneysmortuary.com.
