Herbert Grafton Martin, 85, a resident of San Pedro, California, died June 16, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Meredith Dodd Martin, his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Donald Brinkerhoff, his sister and her husband, Mary Louise and Dennis Bazant, his son, Herbert B. Martin and his partner, Molly Ugles, his son and daughter-in-law, Brent Martin and Alicia Gallagher, his daughter and son-in-law, Heather Martin and Michael Matturro, four granddaughters, Claire and Lauren Matturro, Sydney Martin and Annalisa Hidrogo and grandson, Nicholas Martin, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Kirk. Herb was born to Walter and Mary Martin on August 14, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. He proudly served our country during WWII in the U.S. Navy as a sonar operator aboard the destroyer escort, USS Enright. In 1965, he earned his DDS at USC and began what became a very successful and enduring dental practice in San Pedro, lasting more than 50 years. He was a member of the San Pedro Elks Lodge and a lifetime member of both the USC Alumni Association and the American Dental Association. His remains will be scattered at sea in a private family ceremony with a memorial service to follow in August.
