James G. Crawford Obituary
Jim Crawford was born on August 22, 1928 in the original Torrance Memorial Hospital in downtown Torrance to Elmer and Annabelle Crawford. He was a graduate of Torrance High, the class of 1946, and lived his entire life in Torrance. After 2 years in the Navy he married his sweetheart Shirley and they raised their 3 children, Kerry, Doug and David. Jim was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Doug, who died during WWII; and his grandson, Eric Fadeley. Jim is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children, Kerry Nobis, Doug (Cheryl) and David; his grandchildren, Julie Fadeley, Stacy Martinez (Orlando), Kelly Crawford and Wendy Rafael (David); and his great-grandchildren, Haley Crawford, Reese, Dene and Eli Martinez and Abby Rafael. After leaving the Navy, Jim worked for Union Oil, he opened the very first Golf Driving Range in Torrance (Torrance Fairway), drove a Helms Bakery Truck and then became an agent for State Farm Insurance. He was an avid golfer with a 5 handicap and two club championships from the Mountain Meadow Country Club. He was a family man and enjoyed coaching Little League, summer vacations water skiing on the Colorado River and traveling the world with Shirley. Jim passed away peacefully on May 26, 2012 with his family by his side. Jim left friends wherever he went and will be dearly missed by everyone. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Christian Church of Torrance, 2930 Eldorado St, on Tuesday, June 5 at 12:00.
