Sullivan, Jr.

Age 88, of Olpe, Kansas, passed away in Emporia on July 28, 2012, with his family by his side. Jim was born in New Berlin, Illinois, to James Matthew and Edna Hilliard Sullivan. He attended Cathedral High School in Springfield, Illinois, and St. Benedict College in Atchison, Kansas. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946, fighting in the Battle of Remagen. Jim owned a travel-trailer dealership in Wichita, Kansas, before moving to Los Angeles in the 1960s. He owned Terminal Car Leasing in Carson, California. His ranching career spanned many years, and included a vineyard in California and cow/calf operations in Northern Nevada and Olpe. He wintered in Wickenburg, Arizona. Jim lived his life with passion and was never without his horse, Chex. Jim was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife, Beatrice; his sister, Maureen Sullivan Leahy; brothers-in-law, Eldon F. Johnson and David D. Leahy; and his niece, Diane Leahy Gough. He is survived by two sisters, Geraldine Sullivan Wallace (Robert) of Phoenix, Arizona, and Rita Sullivan Johnson of Bellevue, Washington, numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be said at St. Joseph Church in Olpe on Friday, September 28 at 2 p.m. Donations may be made in Jim's memory to the Rainbow Meadows Equine Rescue & Retirement, 1949 Dalton Rd., Sedan KS. 67361.
