Janice Helen Dickert Obituary
Janice Helen Dickert

Janice Helen Dickert of Redondo Beach passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side late in the evening on Monday, October 21 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was 72. Jan was born in Muskegon, Michigan to Henry and Helen Ippel on March 7, 1941. She was a happy and energetic child, a quality that carried over into her adult live. Jan met the love of her life, Jack Dickert in 1957. They were married in February of 1961 and lived a life filled with happiness until her untimely death. Alongside Jack, Jan worked at TRW-Northrop for 26 years as a software test programmer. Their years with the company took them to far of places like Australia and England and allowed them to travel to other exotic destinations. Jan's love of travel and adventure continued after her retirement. She and Jack logged thousands of miles across the seven seas taking cruises to such places as Alaska, Antarctica and through the Panama Canal. Although always up for a good social outing with friends, Jan loved her quiet time with just Jack and enjoyed reading. She was very active in the South Bay Republican Women Federated group. Family was everything to Jan. The time with them brought so much joy to her life. She leaves behind her loving daughter Kathi Ishizaki and son-in-law Jerry of Fountain Valley and son Rick and daughter-in-law Raquel of Redondo Beach. Her grandsons Anthony (and wife Catherine), Josh and Paul and granddaughters Allyssa, Ambre and Anna will miss her love and support dearly. Jan also leaves behind her sister Marcia Workman of Muskegon, Michigan. Jan's loss has hit us all hard. She was the glue that kept us all together. However, in her passing we are stronger and even more loving. We will all carry her wonderful legacy with us in our own way and never forget her devotion to family. From her loving husband Jack, written hours after her passing: The Path of Life

For the last 52 years Jan and I had traveled the path of life together. We conquered hills and valleys, streams and potholes, always together. Last night we encountered a fork in the road. God was waiting there and motioned for Jan to come with him along the branch to the right. God told me to continue along the branch to the left. I am now traveling that path alone but I know that Jan is with God and that I will join her when it is God's will. A memorial for Jan will be held on Saturday, November 23 at Rice Mortuary in Torrance, CA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: Esophageal Cancer Awareness Association www.ecaware.org/give/donate.
