Skateboarding legend Jay Adams died on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, in Mexico of a heart attack at age 53. He was an original member of the the famed Z-Boys. His death was reported by another founding Z-Boys member, Stacy Peralta, as well as fellow skateboarder Glen E. Friedman.

Adams, a skateboarding pioneer, spent stints in prison for assault and drug-dealing but turned his life around in the years before his death and spent time visiting schools to warn kids about the dangers of alcohol and drugs.

He gained considerable fame via the 2001 documentary "Dogtown and Z-Boys"
