John Kenneth Grissom

1936 - 2010

A longtime resident of the South Bay, John was born and raised on a farm in Rock Island, TN. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a bachelor degree in business. He came to California in 1966, where he met Betty and they were married October 4, 1968. They both came to the Lord and opened a Christian bookstore in Torrance called the Lord's Place, which they operated for 20 years. Subsequently when the store was sold in 1991, he went to work with Betty, a financial advisor with American Express, handling all the computer work until they both retired in 2004 and moved to Laguna Woods. In retirement he worked with Betty as she exhibited and sold her artwork. He is survived by two brothers; two sisters; his wife, Betty; children, Donna Lisa Grissom and Laura Lee Brown; son-in-law, Lance Brown; grandchildren, Max Brown and Kate Brown; and his bichon frise, Pierre. John was born with a heart defect which was corrected in l968 at UCLA. Since that time the Lord gave him 42 years of good health, before taking him home to be with Him. Memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Genera Presbyterian Church, 24301 El Toro Road, Laguna Hills, CA 92653.
