Joyce Long Obituary

Joyce Elrad Long was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 11, 1938 to William and Edyth Elrad. She passed away peacefully November 11, 2010 in her home in Lomita surrounded by friends. She is survived by son, Scott Long of Weatherford, OK; brother, Bob and sister-in-law, Esther Elrad of Lyndhurst, OH; sister, Harriet Wilson of White Lake, MI; niece, Allison Elrad of Denver, CO; nephew, Kurt Elrad of Wooster, OH; uncle, Julius Abrams of Beachwood, OH; cousin, Louise Fuerst of Lyndhurst, OH; and her spiritual brother, Daniel Eastman of Hawaii. Her parents and her beloved dogs, Bucky, Pirate and Teddy, predeceased her. Joyce also leaves many close and loving friends who have been there throughout the year to give her love and support. In return she inspired us all with her dignity, and courage to the end. Joyce began her career in the beauty field with Clairol in New York. Upon moving to the South Bay in 1975, she became an electrologist and opened her own business "Always Facially Fit" in Redondo Beach which she operated until recently. She was also an actress, her passion, and appeared in many television commercials and shows. She was a friend to all animals and volunteered at the SPCA for many years. She and her dog Pirate were frequent visitors to retirement homes. Joyce had an unfailing sense of humor to the last day of her life and shared that gift with all who knew her. Special thanks to her niece, Allison, friends, Vicki, Tara, Joan, Alex and Christian, Joanne and to her wonderful team at Providence TrinityCare Hospice. Services will be private with a burial at sea. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Los Angeles SPCA or the American Lung Association. Joyce, you always were 1joy2c!! I miss you so much Joyce. Your smile, your laugh, your constant words of encouragement. I am so lucky to have been your friend. You did so much for me personally and our times together were always full of fun and love. I know you're now dancing with dogs and still making everyone laugh. I can't even say your name without smiling. You are all Light Joy-cee! I love you forever!

Joyce, I will always remember stopping by your house on Sunday mornings after walking Guinness and hanging out just talking in your new patio area. Watching the dogs run and play was so much fun. We have Bucky's picture next to our TV now, and it will always remind me of your love for animals and your friends.

Dearest Joyce,
You have been a member of our family since the day we met. You've been engaged to our son, Phoenix since he was about 5 years old. (That's a 16 year engagement!) We miss you so much, but know that you are free to dance forever with no pesky oxygen tank to slow you down. I picture you in heaven hugging and walking with your pets and having lunch with my mom. You were, and always will be, a true blessing in our lives. Until we meet again...
All our love,
Tara, Rob, Orion, Phoenix, Michael, David & Jon

There was ner' a person whose name was more fitting than Joy(ce). We spent countless years together listening to each others lives and our fondness for animals. Doing your work brought me joy. Your gentle touch made me glow.

I enjoyed hearing your adventures with pet therapy, happy hours, yoga, Pirate and his buds, movies. I'm glad you were a part of my life.

I met you once, and was caught up by your charm and grace, wonderful courage, and ability to make anyone feel good about themselves. I'm so thankful for having made your acquaintance, and only wish I hadn't lived 3,ooo miles away, because I know we'd have been great friends. Rest well.

I will always appreciate how kind Joyce was to me when I stayed for a while in California and what a long/good friend she was to my sister Joanne. She gave me a wonderful photograph she took of the sun setting in Hawaii that always made me smile and remember my times in LA during the late 1970s. Rest in Peace dear Joyce.
