Lois L. Dunn Obituary
Lois L. Dunn

Lois L. Dunn passed away quietly at home on November 16, 2012 with her family and caregivers at her side. Lois was born March 15, 1928 in Ronan, Montana to George and Esther Knutson. She graduated from Cheyenne, WY high school in 1945 and entered the University of Denver, Children's Hospital (Denver) nursing school that same year, graduating with a BS in nursing education in 1950. She married Charles E. Dunn that same year, and they moved to San Diego, CA. She worked in a pediatric medical office there until the birth of their first daughter, Kathy. Shortly after the birth of her second daughter, Patty, the family moved to Pomona, CA. Lois was an active volunteer for the Red Cross and Girl Scouts for many years. The family relocated to Torrance in 1967, and Lois worked for L.A. City Schools as a school nurse from 1970-1986. She retired several years after being diagnosed with M.S., and she and Chuck enjoyed many years of travel, especially cruises. She volunteered for Torrance Memorial Hospice for many years as a grief counselor. She was preceded in death by Chuck, her husband of 58 years, who passed away in 2008. She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Dunn of San Diego, CA, Patty Dunn, and son-in-law Robert Holbrook of Anacortes, WA and "adopted daughter," Irma Ayala. Irma provided loving care, friendship and lots of laughs for the past 13 years. The family is very grateful to Irma, Lois and other caregivers who lovingly provided care over the years and made sure that Lois had access to lots of chocolate. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
